About the Committee
In accordance with the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan dated October 11, 2007, the previously existing National Institute of State Statistics and Information of Turkmenistan (Turkmenmillikhasabat) It was reorganized and renamed the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan.
With the adoption of the Law of Turkmenistan 'On Statistics' in 2012, the activities of the national statistics system in the era of power and happiness have improved, and strategic directions for its development have been identified.
The State Committee of Statistics of Turkmenistan (TurkmenStat) is a state management body responsible for the implementation of state policy in the field of statistics.
TurkmenStat carries out its activities in cooperation with other ministries, institutions, local executive authorities and self-government bodies, public organizations of the country, as well as with international organizations.
The main tasks of TurkmenStat are the implementation of state policy in the field of statistics, improvement of the statistical system, development and approval of a unified scientifically based statistical methodology in accordance with international statistical standards, improvement of forms of state statistical reporting and methods of collecting statistical information, electronic collection, analysis and synthesis of statistical information, as well as the introduction of digital systems in statistical activities.
The State Committee of Statistics of Turkmenistan consists of 19 departments and 2 divisions. The Committee includes of the statistical departments of five velayats and the cities Ashgabat and Arkadag and the statistics divisions of 44 etraps and cities with etrap rights.

International cooperation
The State Committee of Statistics of Turkmenistan actively cooperates with international organizations and statistical services of foreign countries in improving the methodology and classification of statistics, including the methodology of using the statistical system for indicators of SDGs, as well as the introduction of new types of statistical observation, digital technologies at all stages of statistical significance.
The international cooperation of TurkmenStat with international organizations and statistical services of foreign countries is enshrined in memorandums of understanding and the cooperation.

International cooperation is carried out within the framework of the Framework Programs of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of sustainable development of the Government of Turkmenistan with the United Nations and its agencies, as well as the annual work programs of the representative offices in Turkmenistan of the Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), as well as various joint projects with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
TurkmenStat employees actively participate in meetings, consultations, training seminars and webinars organized with the participation of international organizations.
